Trifle

Trifle is a delicious dessert which is sure to attract the eyes too! This was my first attempt on trifle and it turned out quite fine except the fact that I felt I should have prepared individual servings instead(I prefer Parfait Glasses). That becomes a mess only when you try to slice a portion. Of Course it looks prettier when arranged in a large glass dish.

The recipe given below is based on my experience. You can go ahead and adjust according to the serving dish chosen.

Ingredients:

1st Layer
Vanilla Swiss Roll - 6-8 Slices
Strawberry Jelly - 1 Pkt
Chopped and Stewed Fresh Pineapple Chunks - 1/2 Cup
--------------------------
2nd Layer
Vanilla Custard Powder - 4 Tbsp
Fresh Milk - 1 Cup
Sugar - to taste
Slices Kiwi - 8-10 Slices
--------------------------
3rd Layer
Heavy Cream + Icing Sugar - whipped to stiff peaks
Sliced Strawberries
Caramel Syrup to drizzle

Method:

1. Prepare the jelly according to package directions, minus 1/2 cup water. This is to make the jelly set firmer.

2. Arrange swiss roll slices around the bottom of the dish. Place stewed pineapple pieces in the middle and pour the jelly mixture over it. Cover with a plastic wrap and chill until it sets.

3. Dilute custard powder and sugar in the milk and heat gently. Keep whisking until it reaches desired thickness. Once done, remove from heat and allow to cool completely.

4. By now the jelly may have set. Arrange the sliced kiwi around the dish to make the second layer. Add the cooled custard on top of the jelly layer and spread evenly. Custard should be spread within the gaps between kiwi slices too. Once done with  it, cover and refrigerate again until it becomes firm.

5. Finally spread the whipped cream over the custard layer and arrange strawberry slices as desired. Drizzle some caramel sauce before serving.
